Miss California, Gay Marriage, and Pageant vs. Politics

Miss USA contestant, Miss California Carrie Prejean

Miss California Carrie Prejean recently became the bombshell of the Miss USA pageant by saying gay couples should not be allowed to marry. Celebrity blogger Perez Hilton, who was one of the contest judges, has been busy slamming her ever since.

Similarly, one of the reason why she was slammed was “not for her beliefs but for her complete lack of social grace” Alicia Jacobs, a former Miss Nevada who was one of the judge in this contest, wrote on her blog.

Is it fair? Oh the humanity…

Quite a number of people agreed that a question like that is not relevant in a platform such as the Miss USA pageant. “It’s far too political and it’s divisive as well,” said Kenya Moore, the 1993 Miss USA who was one of the judges that named Prejean Miss California in November. “Half of the audience is going to agree and half is not, no matter what she said. It’s a no-win situation.”

I’d say shame on you Perez Hilton. I think the question which you have given only served your purpose to stir up some issues and cheapshot to gain either controversy on your beliefs or support to your cause at the expense of a young talent. You should be ashame of yourself using your popular standing in such an opportunist manner!

I am not for or against gay marriage. But what irked me is the way some judges ask question and expect the contestant to say what they want or suffer the consequences. Worse yet, they may even want Miss USA to only answer questions ambiguously (or in their beautiful words: “tactful and diplomatic”).

I thought Miss USA is about beauty and virtues. Apparently honesty is not a virtue anymore?

And did anyone even remember to ask about world peace?

The Metropolitan Police have received a complaint from George Hargreaves, the leader of the evangelical political party The Christian Party whose members believe that homosexuality is a sin.

Yesterday Mr Hargreaves said: ‘Mr Duncan has crossed the line. A senior politician suggesting, even as a joke, that it is okay that Miss Prejean should be murdered for her evangelical Christian views is totally unacceptable.

‘How can we stop gun and knife crime when the man thinks he will be the next Home Secretary makes death threats?’

    In addition…
Rev Hargreaves has now advised Carrie Prejean’s Church in San Diego to strongly consider urging her and her family to report the matter to The FBI, Governor Scwarzenegger, The Uk Embassy in Washington, The US Embassy in London and The State Department.

“Alan Duncan MP could be in charge of the British equivalent of the police, FBI and CIA by next year. Carrie Prejean helps Special Olympic contestants and he could be running all security or lack of it in The 2012 Special Olympic Games. This is very serious. Murder is not a joke”.

Rev Hargreaves was a business partner of American Idol’s Simon Cowell in the 1980s and wrote for him the huge pop hit “So Macho” now ironically a gay anthem. Cowell is said not to speak with The Reverand since he found Jesus.

Rev Hargreaves is Leader of The Christian Party which is fielding a full slate of candidates in the European Parliamentary Elections on 4th June 2009 in England, Scotland and Wales. Revd George Hargreaves is standing as the lead candidate in for the London Region. They are the only Party in Britain stating abortion is wrong and should be illegal and that The British Nation needs to return to the Bible and The Cross of Lord Jesus Christ.

Last Thursday (23 April 2009), the Christian Party again beat the Conservatives at the polls in a local Council by-election.
