Wordpress & iPower Installation Issues

Well, after a gruelling 3 hours of troubleshooting, Google-browsing and lots of pulled-off hair bits on my desk, I managed to get this blog up and running.

The reason was that I kept finding errors (mostly HTTP 500 errors) during my installation.

It seems there were two primary causes due to me installing this Wordpress blog on iPower webhost:

  1. DB_HOST: apparently ‘localhost’ does not work. Find your correct DB connection by going to your MySQL facility and look for the connection string at the bottom of the DB list.
  2. CGI: iPower, unlike other webhosts I have experienced, got their CGI to Disabled by default (DUH??). I only noticed this when I was trying to install their supplied Wordpress auto installer (which ironically didn’t work). You will need to set your CGI facility to Enabled, which eventually solved my HTTP 500 errors.

Unfortunately no one seems to realise the #2 above :-/

THAT’S A PRECIOUS 3 HOURS OF MY LIFE I WILL NEVER GET BACK !!!
