Google Analytics Individual Qualification Tips – GAIQ Exam

How to easily pass your Google Analytics Individual Qualification (GAIQ) exam? Here’s my tips.

First, congratulations to me, I just passed with flying colours this morning!

Google Analytics Individual Qualification (GAIQ) Exam results

Google Analytics Individual Qualification (GAIQ) Exam results, name witheld to protect individuals

The test was more intensive than the Google Adwords Professional (GAP) I did 2 years ago. GAIQ has a lot of technicalities instead of simple eenie-meenie-minie-mo process of ABCD elimination, and Google has smartly used more natural phrases in the questions to make simple Search Engine lookup trickier.

With proper resources, you can make your test easier too. I simply used the usual tools I normally use for my everyday job.

Keep good tips/tools open for your GAIQ exam and be ready to alt-tab to them quickly.

Six tools you need for your Google Analytics Individual Qualification Exam:

  1. Regular Expression tool and information
  2. Search and Replace filters
  3. URL Builder tool
  4. Google Analytics Tracking API for a quick function references
  5. Google Help page for quick keyword searches
  6. One Google Analytics account profile which you own

Keep these pages open as tabs in a browser window for very quick reference (that’s what open book exam is all about).

Analyse the question properly to identify important keyphrases, and search them using the Google Help page. Quick findings on the relevant information page within the search results ensures your success.

Eliminate the obvious bad choices to keep your margin of error as slim as possible.

Win!

A few particular things you can focus on learning:

  • Cookie types (permanent, temporary, session) and their typical lifetime.
  • What types of cookies does GA use?
  • E-commerce tracking code (AddTrans(), AddItem(), TrackTrans())
  • Filtering certain traffic sources
  • Tagging your URLs with UTM variables to identify campaign performances

That’s not all, but that would get you started.

And if you find this article helps you pass your exam, I would be very thankful if you would post your score here and if anyone can tell me what other information would be good to put here.

The questions are ABCD multiple choices, where on most you need to select one correct answer, and on some you need to select all answers that applies through checkboxes.

Don’t worry mate, as long as you have the resources and are familiar with using Google Analytics for normal reporting you would do just fine :)
There is nothing tricky or special in the questions.
Overall, the GAIQ exam seems to have been better-engineered than Google Adwords exam.
