Update on the Supra Overheating episode of Project Lionheart: the mighty 2JZ-GTE engine still runs!!!
OK, went home during lunchtime to check the engine after yesterday’s overheating incident (Oh my, today is so hot! Sweating on the bike!!!!)
Checked engine oil on oil filler, all black and normal. Good!!!
Checked oil dipstick. Engine oil looks black and normal, no metal shavings. Great!!! :-)
Topped up the Supra radiator with water, made sure overflow can is at half full as well, then start the engine. It started fine. Good! :-)
No excessive water bubbling on the radiator filler hole either, apart from slight gulp when the engine started running.
The 2JZ-GTE engine didn’t seem to generate excessive noise, grinding noise, or whirring noise. Good sign!
Lots of sighs of relief…then proceeded with blipping throttle once engine warmed up. RPM went up finely, boost seems holding fine too (but I didn’t test it too much)! VERY HAPPY!
Testament to 2JZ-GTE bulletproofness? Maybe. Twin Turbo Supra’s 2JZ-GTE was the most powerful engine ever to come out of Japan factory. In fact, if you want to be pedantic, 2JZ-GTE can be said as a European engine as it was designed by Germans in Germany (where else….duh).
I would hold my breath until I can do compression tests on the cylinders though. Here’s keeping my fingers crossed.
P.S.
Hmm…the alarm problem seems to have sorted itself out. Maybe it was a wet switch when I was frantically pouring water into the overflow can last night.
